Closet Essentials!

Today you can have your cake and eat it too! At E.G.Geller shoes we have both fashion and comfort shoes, but more importantly we have comfortable shoes that are fashionable. In my opinion there are no rules in fashion and it is up to us to find contentment in our own styles and expression.  Decade after decade we see similar styles and can conclude that most trends in fashion are cyclical. When creating your personal style there are items that can be a part of your everyday living. These items are considered the core items in your wardrobe. A large component of your core items is shoes. We wear shoes everyday (hopefully) and they should be comfortable and supportive if they are going to be a part of your everyday life. It is important to at least have a couple pair of good shoes to alternate everyday or even in the middle of the day. If you have the means to possess a large variety of shoes for every occasion and encounter that is ideal for better foot health, but for many people they only have one or two pairs of shoes that they really wear. I'd like to suggest a couple of shoe styles that are essential in every closet. First, for most people an athletic type of shoe is necessary. Although most athletic shoes appear to be comfortable they really have very little actual support for your foot. You may want to check out the rocker bottom shoes to use as an exercise shoe or a Mephisto Rush, which has been voted the number one walking shoe in France on multiple occasions. Second, most women need a dress shoe or a professional work shoe. Beautifeel is one company that produces dress shoes that provide a lot of cushioning and support, but are also fashionable and versatile for various occasions. Another great company for work shoes is Sanita. Sanita is the manufacturer of the original Danish clog. These clogs are often sold to teachers, chefs, nurses and doctors as well as other professionals who stand for long periods of time. A pair of Sanita clogs is a great core shoe to have in your closet. Third, for those of you lucky enough to be in the warmer climates it is essential to have a solid pair of summer sandals. A lot of women are quick to throw on those plastic flip flops, but they can be harmful to your feet. It is important to wear a sandal that fits properly and provides significant support. Some great supportive sandals are NaotsMephistos and Finn Comforts among others. Although I have only discussed a few of your closet essentials in footwear I hope that you will take the time to look at some of these great styles and start acquiring your core shoes today!

Fantastic, Fabulous Flats!

We all LOVE the cute look of flats, but do we LOVE the comfort...not always. Believe it or not there are COMFORTABLE flats out there! When you wear a shoe that is completely flat and has a thin sole and no support it is virtually like walking barefoot on hard surfaces. At E.G.Geller Shoes we carry some wonderful flats that are both comfortable and cute! One brand that specializes in comfort flats is Paul Mayer. Paul Mayer's flats are chic, classy, comfortable and handmade with the finest leathers and materials. These flats have a cushioning outsole and the ability to be singed up around the foot like an actual ballerina flat. Another great brand is Ara. Ara shoes are made in Germany with the latest technology in shoe craftsmanship. They make a stylish flat in many colors and tones including copper, white, black and pewter among others that has good arch support and cushioned outsole. A few more brands with cute comfort flats include Born Crown, Naot and Geox. Check them out!

At E.G.Geller Shoes we have a lot of customers looking specifically for a walking shoe. Some want something in the athletic category and some want something casual and versatile for everyday wear. If you are looking for a more athletic looking walking shoe you may want to check out the MBT's or Sano's which both have the rocker bottom soles or the Finn Comfort and Mephito oxfords. The rocker bottom shoes are a healthy concept, but are not always right for everyone and to those people we may suggest something like the Mephisto Rush or the Finn Comfort Cusco. Stinky Feet?

Tonight I want to share with you all a little about a company with a unique history and a technologically advanced product! It all started when Mario Moretti Polegato was taking a walk during a business trip with his family and was very irritated with his warm, sweaty feet. He decided to poke holes into his rubber-soled shoes in order to let air in. Polegato brought his idea into the workshop of a small shoe company owned by his family and created the first ever “breathable shoe”. Geox was founded in the 90’s and has become a company known throughout the world. Geox shoes have perforated rubber soles with a micro-porous membrane that allows moisture and heat to escape the shoe, but keeps water out. If you are someone who is bothered by your feet overheating you should most defiantly consider Geox. They have shoes for both men and women ranging from stylish to casual. Check out E.G.Geller’s selection HERE!

Truly Timeless!

Everyone has heard of Birkenstock! They’re part of history! Birkenstock shoes go all the way back to 1774 when Johann Adam Birkenstock registered as a shoemaker in Germany. In 1897 Konrad Birkenstock, Johann’s grandson, created the first insole used by shoemakers.Konrad then went on to develop a flexible arch support that was inserted in shoes made in factories. By 1964 Karl Birkenstock transformed these insoles into the Birkenstock sandal. It wasn’t long before Birkenstocks found their way to the USA in 1967 and became an everyday shoe. Birkenstock shoes have a great deal of arch support and offer various widths and arch lengths to insure an ideal fit. Some people who try Birkenstocks for the first time feel that they are too wide or lose, but really they actually fit. The comfort of a Birkenstock comes from the supportive footbed and the room your foot has to move and breathe. In recent years Birkenstock had introduced their “soft footbed” where they have put a layer of latex cushioning on top of the cork in order to provide a little cushion over the support. So far at E.G.Geller we have seen a great reaction of the “soft footbed” from our Birkenstock customers who have worn Birkenstocks (often the same pair) for over ten years. If you are not someone interested in the styling of Birkenstock shoes then you should definitely try the Birkenstock Blue Insoles. These insoles come in different widths and arch lengths and are compatible with many shoe types. I personally put them in some of my deeper flats and in my tennis shoes. If you are interested in a pair of arch supports call us at E.G.Geller (800)-321-8066 and we can determine which size and width would fit you best. Check out our large selection of Birkenstocks HERE.

Let's Rock!

Everyone is asking, what the heck are these rocker bottom shoes? We have all seen many “versions” of the rocker bottom shoes being advertised on television and though the media, but how are we supposed to know which one is legitimate? MBT is the original, patented rocker bottom sole that was created by a Swiss engineer by the name of Karl Muller. MBT stands for Masai Barefoot Technology and the shoes were created to activate various muscle groups that are often neglected, improve posture and increase circulation. MBT is the ONLY rocker bottom shoe that has the patented polyurethane sensor (non electronic) in the heel that provides the feeling of walking on sand. Also, MBT is the ONLY rocker bottom sole with the patented “pivot point” which facilitates that rocking motion and actually almost propels you along as you walk. A lot of people have been using the MBT as a work out tool, but many customers have found that they are great for all day walking and standing in the workplace. Having the rocker bottom sole between you and the ground can really take a lot of stress off your joints and relieve back pain. At E.G.Geller we have had customers who have owned both the original MBT and the Sketchers or Reebock shoes and have really noticed a difference between the design and quality. MBT’s are manufactured with quality materials and MBT Inc. offers a resoling program so you can have your MBT’s resoled and cleaned up. Everyone should own a pair of MBTs and experience the support and relief they provide. If MBT is not for you, you may want to consider a more stable “rocker bottom” shoe like the Mephisto Sano or the Finn Comfort Finnamic!
