We hear a lot of talk about wellness and health and there are a lot of factors involved in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We've previously discussed the role proper foot health plays in providing wellness for the whole body and we want to give you some tips and ideas:

• Always wear shoes that have a good arch and metatarsal support.

• NEVER wear shoes that are too tight and scrunch your toes; this may result in bunions! Who wants a BUNION?

• Wash your feet daily!

• Ladies, try to only wear heels when it is really necessary because they can cause damage to the feet and body including arthritis or cause a deformation of the arch in you foot. If necessary try and wear a heel with a shorter heel height, a broader heel width for stability and has some cushioning and arch support. Some brands I would recommend for a comfortable dress shoe would include Anyi Lu, Beautiful and Theirry Rabotin to name a few.

• Trim your toenails! Overgrown toenails will not only cause discomfort, but can result in more serious long term issues including in grown toe nails.

• Wear shoes all the time. Preferably supportive shoes! Most people spend the majority of their time in their homes and fail to wear proper footwear. Fuzzy warm slippers are great on a cold winter day, but may I suggest something like a Haflinger House Slipper! These House Shoes have a conformable cork footbed that supports the foot and they are made of warm wool. So you can have your fuzzy and your comfort in one! • Maintain healthy eating habits and regular physical activity. Doing this could help treat and maintain diabities, which in nearly half the cases invloves some sort of foot related problem. My suggestion: if you are able to avoid the diabetes by maintaining a healthy lifestyle you can avoid the foot problems that are associated.

Why should you pay for a good pair of shoes. I have been told a good pair of shoes will effect your entire well being. Just think about this. You are only given two feet and they are the most abused part of the body. If your feet hurt it will affect your entire day. I learned today that knee pain may be related to your foot. If you are not getting the support for your feet it could be affecting your knee. So you may not really have anything wrong with your knee. This pain could travel up to the rest of your body.

Start you day off with the proper food. No processed food, your grandparents would not recognize processed food. Just take a walk, you don't need to workout unless you choose to. I ride a bike. This is good for me. But, I have been working out for almost 40 years. But, no one person needs to do what I do. You need to do what works for you.

Hello everyone! It is really starting to warm up outside and it is officially time to pack away those winter boots and get out your summer sandals. It may be temping to throw on those cushy plastic flip-flops, but they really have no support. Comfortable Heels! SAY WHAT?

YES, In my opinion there is such thing as a comfortable high heel! Women tend to buy heels that are two small and cram their feet into them. Doing this can cause extreme discomfort and ultimately result in a beautiful bunion on your foot or a painful neuroma. Although a portion of bunions are due to a genetic family history of foot issues most are due to wearing shoes that are the wrong size. LADIES, 6 is just a number! It is important to realize that although you were a size 6 when you were 18 most women's feet flatten out and grow in time. It is important to get fitted in the right size shoes! Now that I have that out of my system, we can get on discussing some brands that create some truly comfortable heels. I'll start with Anyi Lu, she is a brilliant women who is involved with both the design and construction of her shoes. One of the most comfortable heels I've ever put on was one of hers called the "Tulip"! She makes it every season in different leathers, always adding a little something here and there including more arch support and cushioning in the ball of the foot. Another great brand is Gabor. They are an old German company that really puts a good shock absorbing sole on their heels and a lot of cushion under the ball of the foot. Theirry Rabotin also makes a variety of unique, comfort dress shoes every season. Thierry uses lambskin leather and poron cushioning to create a shoe that is not only beautiful, but feels like a glove on your foot. As a woman, wearing heels is just a part of life! We all want to look fabulous, so why not feel good while we're doing it. Check out some of the brands I've talked about today and find the right heel for you. Ouch! My Feet!

Although there are many comfortable, supportive shoes that will help prevent everyday aches and pains in the feet, many people have serious foot issues that call for more serious attention. Plantar Fasciitis, Neuromas, Heel Spurs and Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome are just a few issues that can be treated with some supportive shoes, but are often cured or better treated with orthotics. If you are having specific recurring pain it is important that you see a podiatrist right away and get a diagnosis. With many foot problems the longer you let them go the worse they become. There are many options to consider when shopping for orthotics and some become very costly so it is important to do your research and seek professional opinions before spending hundreds of dollars on a custom orthotic when an over the counter orthotic or a comfort shoe may be the answer.

Arch ya glad I didn't say banana!

EVERY person has different arch lengths and heights. If you stand in front of a mirror and look at the arch of your foot you can see how high or low your arch is. Some people have really high archs and some people hardly have an arch at all. No matter the height of the arch everyone could use a little or a lot of support. When we think of arch support many tend to think of orthodics, but really there are a number of shoes that provide the same amount of support or even more support than an orthodic.
